April 2009 Archives

Initially, I had resisted the idea of a top image on the site. "How ordinary," I'd said. "How undignified and degrading."
And yet, here we are. The idea struck me while I was working on something completely unrelated, and I quickly sketched it out. A periscope in the grass just seemed like the most important thing in the world.

Right after drawing it, I started messing around with block letters of the variety seen on indie-styled films and dust jackets. Its all the rage these days.
What happened next is a little funny since I certainly hadn't intended it. When I threw this site together back in January, I didn't want to give the blog a name. But, MovableType was prompting me for one, so I just went with what I had on hand. "The Front of the End" is name of one of my notebooks, all of which are named as soon as I start working in them ("This Is Our Last Rocket," "Washington," "Zoetrope," "Sketches of Saints," etc.) and happened to be next to me.
It was meant to be a placeholder until I thought of something better, but once I saw it on someone else's site, it just seemed right.

I won't say the site is finished, but for now I am more than satisfied with it. Hopefully, it will start growing into something I am happy with.
Comic starts tomorrow.
